Some of you may have noticed that I put a bunch of gloves up in the shop earlier this spring. They were modeled so beautifully by my friend Kim, and many of them sold fairly quickly. As of now, there is but one pair left, a very special mesh pair from the 1940s by famed American glove maker Van Raalte.
As luck would have it I recently came across the above Van Raalt print advertisement on Pinterest. It’s the exact gloves, only in black. I love the text in the ad, and how it demurely says ‘underthings.’ Can’t be too scandalous, now!
As a vintage seller it’s such a treat to come across print ads (or catalogue pages) of the garments you’re selling. For one thing, it helps you date your items accurately, and also gives them a bit of context and backstory.
