Art Deco Birthday Cards

I have in my possession a large scrapbook that belonged to my great-grandmother, Alice. She died before I was born, so I never knew her. When she got married in 1924, she started collecting greeting cards that she received over the years, beginning with her wedding, the birth of her children, and eventually valentines, holiday greetings, and birthday cards. She filled every page, and the last page is of holiday cards in December, 1941.

I’m going to share a few of these cards at a time, and I thought I’d start with the birthday cards. There are so many classic elements of design of the time period used in these pretty cards. You’ll see what I mean.

This one is my second favorite. That’s real lace glued on. Here’s the inside:

Pancake Circus

Over the weekend, Ted and I took an impromptu road trip to Sacramento and the surrounding area. Our first stop? Pancake Circus.

It’s no It’s Tops, not by a longshot, but it’s definitely a place partially stuck in time (Pancake Circus has a late ’60s feel to it), and the prices (low end of moderate) are very doable. A fan of clowns? This place is for you. Ted and I also thought the pancakes were fantastic.

A quick lipstick touchup in the ladies room and we were out the door!

What I’m Wearing: Color Wheel

Sunday was a day where I in no way felt like washing my hair, so into a high bun it went. The plan was to completely cover things up kerchief-style, and this triangle scarf (which matches the dress) did the job perfectly.
